Narrative:

During the climb around 3;000 ft AGL; there was a load audible bang and the aircraft yawed violently. On the EICAS there was a message stating ENG2 out. The first officer (first officer) was flying when the event occurred and I took control of the aircraft. The first officer [advised ATC] and we ran the appropriate checklist. We elected to not attempt a restart of the engine due to the loud bang an immediate shutdown of the engine (possible damage). I advised the flight attendant we had an engine failure and we would be returning to [the departure airport] and there would be fire trucks meeting us upon arrival. After checklist were completed we returned and shot the ILS. We landed without incident and taxied to the gate.
