Narrative:

After taxiing to runway 23 at cae, I was cleared for takeoff. I taxied out on a stopway area, that was marked with yellow chevrons, and taxied down to the runway threshold, then started my takeoff roll. After takeoff, I remembered that the stopway area is not to be used for taxiing. Contributing factors. Pilot misinterp of airport markings. Airport markings to runway 23 unclr. Airport diagram on nos instrument approach procedures is misleading, it shows taxiway going to the end of this runway, with only intxns to runway 23 at other txwys.
