Narrative:

During taxi out for takeoff we were cleared to taxi to runway 11. The taxiway ends at the runway about 2000' from the departure end of the runway. Prior to taxi the crew discussed the IFR takeoff procedure for runway 29 which at that time was anticipated. When clearance to taxi was called for runway 11 was offered and discussed. During taxi the IFR departure and engine out procedure was discussed. The captain asked the first officer and F/east to start #3 engine which was delayed for fuel conservation during taxi. During the start of the #3 engine the first officer and second officer were temporarily out of the loop and the captain continued his taxi onto and down the runway towards the takeoff end. As the first officer and second officer noticed this situation it was brought to our attention by the ground controller. Contributing factors. None of the pilots were to this airport frequently (all have been there only 1 other time). The delayed engine start was performed at a time when attention would have been better concentrated on the taxi route. Corrective actions. To prevent a recurrence of this type of situation, I believe that at an unfamiliar airport it would be best to start all engines at the gate prior to taxi so that all crew members can concentrate on checklists and the taxi route.

Title: ACR LGT UNAUTH RWY ENTRY.

Narrative: DURING TAXI OUT FOR TKOF WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 11. THE TXWY ENDS AT THE RWY ABOUT 2000' FROM THE DEP END OF THE RWY. PRIOR TO TAXI THE CREW DISCUSSED THE IFR TKOF PROC FOR RWY 29 WHICH AT THAT TIME WAS ANTICIPATED. WHEN CLRNC TO TAXI WAS CALLED FOR RWY 11 WAS OFFERED AND DISCUSSED. DURING TAXI THE IFR DEP AND ENG OUT PROC WAS DISCUSSED. THE CAPT ASKED THE F/O AND F/E TO START #3 ENG WHICH WAS DELAYED FOR FUEL CONSERVATION DURING TAXI. DURING THE START OF THE #3 ENG THE F/O AND S/O WERE TEMPORARILY OUT OF THE LOOP AND THE CAPT CONTINUED HIS TAXI ONTO AND DOWN THE RWY TOWARDS THE TKOF END. AS THE F/O AND S/O NOTICED THIS SITUATION IT WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTN BY THE GND CTLR. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. NONE OF THE PLTS WERE TO THIS ARPT FREQUENTLY (ALL HAVE BEEN THERE ONLY 1 OTHER TIME). THE DELAYED ENG START WAS PERFORMED AT A TIME WHEN ATTN WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER CONCENTRATED ON THE TAXI RTE. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE OF THIS TYPE OF SITUATION, I BELIEVE THAT AT AN UNFAMILIAR ARPT IT WOULD BE BEST TO START ALL ENGS AT THE GATE PRIOR TO TAXI SO THAT ALL CREW MEMBERS CAN CONCENTRATE ON CHKLISTS AND THE TAXI RTE.
