Narrative:

En route from pit rdu we were cleared direct roa-sbv-SBV2-arv to rdu. The captain programmed the FMC accordingly, including crossing the aldan intersection at 10000'/250 KTS. In the vicinity of sbv we were cleared direct rdu and to cross 35 north DME at 10000'. We were cruising at FL240 in the VNAV mode. Additionally we had a 72 KT tailwind. The crossing restriction was given too late to initiate a VNAV descent. A manual descent was made with airspeed at barber pole, initially, but had to slow due turbulence. We were unable to contact ATC controller when it became obvious we would not make the restriction. We xed fix at 11800' descending at 4000 FPM.

Title: ACR CREW UNABLE TO MAKE CROSSING RESTRICTION.

Narrative: ENRTE FROM PIT RDU WE WERE CLRED DIRECT ROA-SBV-SBV2-ARV TO RDU. THE CAPT PROGRAMMED THE FMC ACCORDINGLY, INCLUDING XING THE ALDAN INTXN AT 10000'/250 KTS. IN THE VICINITY OF SBV WE WERE CLRED DIRECT RDU AND TO CROSS 35 N DME AT 10000'. WE WERE CRUISING AT FL240 IN THE VNAV MODE. ADDITIONALLY WE HAD A 72 KT TAILWIND. THE XING RESTRICTION WAS GIVEN TOO LATE TO INITIATE A VNAV DSNT. A MANUAL DSNT WAS MADE WITH AIRSPD AT BARBER POLE, INITIALLY, BUT HAD TO SLOW DUE TURB. WE WERE UNABLE TO CONTACT ATC CTLR WHEN IT BECAME OBVIOUS WE WOULD NOT MAKE THE RESTRICTION. WE XED FIX AT 11800' DSNDING AT 4000 FPM.
