Narrative:

Was advised when east of okc that ama WX was approximately 20000' scattered 7000'. Continued to ama. 40 mi east of ama, approach control advised same WX, but then said, 'that can't be right,' then advised us that ama WX was 1000' obscured, 2000 RVR. Later, while on the approach, was advised that WX was perhaps as low as 1000 RVR. Broke out at minimums and could see about 1/2 mi visually. Aircraft landed uneventfully and WX improved. It is clear that ama was not properly reporting their WX until we were maneuvering for the approach. WX either suddenly deteriorated or ama WX personnel were not looking out the window.
