Narrative:

Air carrier X with clearance to 5000' after departure from bdl ATC gave 150 degree heading and 10000'. I read back 150 degrees and 12000'. We were given a frequency change to ZBW climbing through approximately 9000'. After contacting ZBW and level 12000', air carrier X told that our clearance was to only 10000'. After landing dca I called bdl departure. After listening to the playback of tape, the supervisor verified the controller issued 10000' and I read back 12000'. The controller missed the wrong altitude on readback and I had missed the correct altitude readback. Both of us need to be more observant and listen more intently.

Narrative: ACR X WITH CLRNC TO 5000' AFTER DEP FROM BDL ATC GAVE 150 DEG HDG AND 10000'. I READ BACK 150 DEGS AND 12000'. WE WERE GIVEN A FREQ CHANGE TO ZBW CLBING THROUGH APPROX 9000'. AFTER CONTACTING ZBW AND LEVEL 12000', ACR X TOLD THAT OUR CLRNC WAS TO ONLY 10000'. AFTER LNDG DCA I CALLED BDL DEP. AFTER LISTENING TO THE PLAYBACK OF TAPE, THE SUPVR VERIFIED THE CTLR ISSUED 10000' AND I READ BACK 12000'. THE CTLR MISSED THE WRONG ALT ON READBACK AND I HAD MISSED THE CORRECT ALT READBACK. BOTH OF US NEED TO BE MORE OBSERVANT AND LISTEN MORE INTENTLY.
