Narrative:

Landing airport yvr, approach control asked if we had the airport. We said yes and controller cleared us for a visibility approach to runway 08, maintain 7000'. We proceeded from yvr VOR to sandheads beacon at which time we turned to 300 degree as depicted on chart. The controller said something which was partially covered and also garbled. Right after this, he gave us a 200 degree heading for a vector for the isl. He told us he wanted us to repeat all clrncs. We had repeated all clrncs and were continuing to do so. He then asked us to call him on the ground. I later called him on the telephone and he wanted to know what happened. He said he cancelled the visibility and remain on the STAR. We never received the clearance. This is why he asked us to repeat all clrncs. He said when we turned to a heading of 300 degree, we were cutting out a widebody transport on final, which was never mentioned to us. There were several problems in this situation. We called ourselves eleven ab, and he kept referring to us as one one alpha bravo. We were not mentally listening for that number. This could possibly be a problem. Another problem, congestion. Too many airplanes on same frequencys. Controllers talk too fast. More and more in the cockpit you hear, 'what did he say, please repeat'. Recommendation. All controllers as well as pilots should be required to take speech or diction classes at least once a yr. Communications could cause a serious problem if something isn't done soon.

Title: COMS BREAKDOWN BETWEEN YVR APCH CTLR AND ACR LGT.

Narrative: LNDG ARPT YVR, APCH CTL ASKED IF WE HAD THE ARPT. WE SAID YES AND CTLR CLRED US FOR A VIS APCH TO RWY 08, MAINTAIN 7000'. WE PROCEEDED FROM YVR VOR TO SANDHEADS BEACON AT WHICH TIME WE TURNED TO 300 DEG AS DEPICTED ON CHART. THE CTLR SAID SOMETHING WHICH WAS PARTIALLY COVERED AND ALSO GARBLED. RIGHT AFTER THIS, HE GAVE US A 200 DEG HDG FOR A VECTOR FOR THE ISL. HE TOLD US HE WANTED US TO REPEAT ALL CLRNCS. WE HAD REPEATED ALL CLRNCS AND WERE CONTINUING TO DO SO. HE THEN ASKED US TO CALL HIM ON THE GND. I LATER CALLED HIM ON THE TELEPHONE AND HE WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. HE SAID HE CANCELLED THE VIS AND REMAIN ON THE STAR. WE NEVER RECEIVED THE CLRNC. THIS IS WHY HE ASKED US TO REPEAT ALL CLRNCS. HE SAID WHEN WE TURNED TO A HDG OF 300 DEG, WE WERE CUTTING OUT A WDB ON FINAL, WHICH WAS NEVER MENTIONED TO US. THERE WERE SEVERAL PROBS IN THIS SITUATION. WE CALLED OURSELVES ELEVEN AB, AND HE KEPT REFERRING TO US AS ONE ONE ALPHA BRAVO. WE WERE NOT MENTALLY LISTENING FOR THAT NUMBER. THIS COULD POSSIBLY BE A PROB. ANOTHER PROB, CONGESTION. TOO MANY AIRPLANES ON SAME FREQS. CTLRS TALK TOO FAST. MORE AND MORE IN THE COCKPIT YOU HEAR, 'WHAT DID HE SAY, PLEASE REPEAT'. RECOMMENDATION. ALL CTLRS AS WELL AS PLTS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO TAKE SPEECH OR DICTION CLASSES AT LEAST ONCE A YR. COMS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS PROB IF SOMETHING ISN'T DONE SOON.
