Narrative:

I was on short final, already over the runway (04) at 3r5 executing a simulated engine failure, approximately 50' AGL, 70 KTS indicated airspeed when the airplane began a rapid vertical descent. Power was immediately added in an attempt for a go around. A hard landing occurred. The winds were from the nne at approximately 8 KTS. I was flying with a certified flight instrument at the time for instructional purposes. Supplemental information from acn 142467. Wings were level. Winds were north to northeast at 8 KTS. Vso for the small aircraft is 49 KIAS and VS1 is 57 KIAS so the 79 KIAS wings level was sufficiently above stall speed.
