Narrative:

This was a normal and safe flight of 1 hour duration in a 28 yr old small aircraft aircraft with manual gear. Landing was normal, rollout was normal, but during taxi off the active runway over the bump in the surface between the runway and ramp area (runway is 2' higher than the ramp area) the nose gear collapsed, damaging the propeller and nose gear linkage. The green gear down and locked light was illuminated as normal. Gear retraction arm was checked 3 times before landing. I think the green light should not come on unless in fact the gear is down and locked, and a better latching system should be made for the nose gear. A report was made to FAA on insistence of the airport owner. The pilot felt this was not a rptable incident according to NTSB rule 830.5. The FAA wanted the aircraft pulled in the hangar to pull panels for an estimate of damage (according to airport owner) 2 days after the incident. FAA inspected aircraft, took pictures, and made copies of all log books. Told pilot certificate action would be taken. Aircraft was out of annual inspection.

Title: SMA EXPERIENCED NOSE GEAR COLLAPSE DURING TAXI-IN AND, DURING SUBSEQUENT FAA ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION, THE ACFT WAS FOUND OVERDUE FOR ANNUAL. CERTIFICATE ACTION TAKEN ON PLT.

Narrative: THIS WAS A NORMAL AND SAFE FLT OF 1 HR DURATION IN A 28 YR OLD SMA ACFT WITH MANUAL GEAR. LNDG WAS NORMAL, ROLLOUT WAS NORMAL, BUT DURING TAXI OFF THE ACTIVE RWY OVER THE BUMP IN THE SURFACE BTWN THE RWY AND RAMP AREA (RWY IS 2' HIGHER THAN THE RAMP AREA) THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED, DAMAGING THE PROP AND NOSE GEAR LINKAGE. THE GREEN GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AS NORMAL. GEAR RETRACTION ARM WAS CHKED 3 TIMES BEFORE LNDG. I THINK THE GREEN LIGHT SHOULD NOT COME ON UNLESS IN FACT THE GEAR IS DOWN AND LOCKED, AND A BETTER LATCHING SYS SHOULD BE MADE FOR THE NOSE GEAR. A RPT WAS MADE TO FAA ON INSISTENCE OF THE ARPT OWNER. THE PLT FELT THIS WAS NOT A RPTABLE INCIDENT ACCORDING TO NTSB RULE 830.5. THE FAA WANTED THE ACFT PULLED IN THE HANGAR TO PULL PANELS FOR AN ESTIMATE OF DAMAGE (ACCORDING TO ARPT OWNER) 2 DAYS AFTER THE INCIDENT. FAA INSPECTED ACFT, TOOK PICTURES, AND MADE COPIES OF ALL LOG BOOKS. TOLD PLT CERTIFICATE ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN. ACFT WAS OUT OF ANNUAL INSPECTION.
