Narrative:

Being unfamiliar with the local landmarks in the dfw area, I would not accept a stadium visibility approach to runway 31R at dfw, but requested a visibility approach to runway 31R. TRACON asked me to call them when I landed. I did and spoke with area manager dfw TRACON. He was concerned that I wouldn't accept the stadium visibility approach (published). He maintained that it is a noise abatement procedure and must be followed precisely, or accept the consequence of being vectored to a different runway. I simply stated that I was not absolutely certain where the texas stadium, golf course and depicted bldgs were located, and my acceptance of that approach would have compromised the safety of my flight. I must know that I am flying the correct flight profile. He alluded to the fact that I was not a professional pilot if I couldn't find the depicted landmarks.

Narrative: BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH THE LCL LANDMARKS IN THE DFW AREA, I WOULD NOT ACCEPT A STADIUM VIS APCH TO RWY 31R AT DFW, BUT REQUESTED A VIS APCH TO RWY 31R. TRACON ASKED ME TO CALL THEM WHEN I LANDED. I DID AND SPOKE WITH AREA MGR DFW TRACON. HE WAS CONCERNED THAT I WOULDN'T ACCEPT THE STADIUM VIS APCH (PUBLISHED). HE MAINTAINED THAT IT IS A NOISE ABATEMENT PROC AND MUST BE FOLLOWED PRECISELY, OR ACCEPT THE CONSEQUENCE OF BEING VECTORED TO A DIFFERENT RWY. I SIMPLY STATED THAT I WAS NOT ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN WHERE THE TEXAS STADIUM, GOLF COURSE AND DEPICTED BLDGS WERE LOCATED, AND MY ACCEPTANCE OF THAT APCH WOULD HAVE COMPROMISED THE SAFETY OF MY FLT. I MUST KNOW THAT I AM FLYING THE CORRECT FLT PROFILE. HE ALLUDED TO THE FACT THAT I WAS NOT A PROFESSIONAL PLT IF I COULDN'T FIND THE DEPICTED LANDMARKS.
