Narrative:

Finished with service. [I] was sitting in jumpseat when I heard a very loud pop (comparable to a gunshot sound). There was also a very strong shake. Immediately called the lead flight attendant and she felt it as well and was calling the captain. There was a commuting pilot in the last row. He came to the back and tried calling the flight deck. He proceeded to go up to the flight deck to help. There were flames coming out of the aircraft right engine. We did a planned cabin prep. Diverted to [an alternate]. No evacuation was necessary.
