Narrative:

We were given taxi instructions to 17L via m-l-north short of 17L. As we taxied down north; it became apparent that the yellow taxi centerline goes left to taxiway K and right to taxiway D6 [P]; but not to D/end of 17L; and there was no enhanced centerline leading to the hold short line. We had to assume our own centerline to the end of 17L. We also noticed there were two sets of runway hold short lines. One was next to a sign saying 17L approach area; which we assumed would be the ILS critical area [pofz] painted with the 'ladder' line; but it was painted as a (two lined;two dashed) hold short line. There was another hold short line right at the edge of the runway on D. We held short at the first line just to be safe. I wrote this to address confusing taxi lines and hold short lines at 17L. Hopefully this can be addressed so no one taxis the wrong way or incurs on the runway; especially at night.

Title: Regional Jet Captain departing SDF from Runway 17L reported questioning the type of hold bars painted on the taxiway leading up to the runway. They are both identical but the first set is for approach (POFZ) clearance and the second set is the runway hold bar. He believed that the approach hold bar should be of the ladder type.
