Narrative:
I may have taken off with visibility below the takeoff legality table. The last ATIS read vis=1/4sm; fog; SCT001; wind calm. After pushback; I looked at jepps page 10-9a to verify minimum takeoff visibility of RVR 5/5/5; for 1/4sm; adequate vis ref. I reviewed the info with the first officer (first officer) before taxi. During taxi; I saw one aircraft land and another takeoff from runway xy. Both were visible for the entire rollout/takeoff. During lineup on runway xy; the fog was mostly to the east/right and I had a good view of the whole runway. When cleared for takeoff tower reported RVR 2000/4000 plus/ and what I heard was rollout=500. After [takeoff]; I asked the first officer what vis he heard from tower and we both agreed it was probably rollout=400. About 20 minutes after takeoff; I called the tower and asked if they logged the visibility report for our takeoff. The info is recorded on tape and was not readily available. I relied on my own observation of the runway conditions which reinforced the ATIS information.from now on I will pay better attention to the tower report and strictly follow flight manual requirements and sops.
