Narrative:

Normal departure; APU placarded inop; climbing thru FL270; master caution with #2 source off light came on and gen off light. Directed first officer to QRH for procedure and I saw that [a nearby airport] would be our diversion with single generator. Procedure did not correct problem. Notified ATC and wanted to stop climb and turn back to [divert airport]. [Alerted] fas and requested aarf to be standing by in case they were needed. They were not needed and immediately released after landing. No further incidents noted.
