Narrative:

My aircraft, small aircraft X, descending to land, runway 36, from the west. Tower instructed me to report 2 mi left base runway 36, which I did. Moments later, small aircraft Y reported 2 mi right base runway 36. Tower cleared small aircraft Y to land runway 36. Tower cleared me to land runway 3. I repeated the instruction, 'cleared to land runway 3'. Tower then asked me, 'do you have small aircraft Y in sight?' I replied, 'I have the aircraft in sight.' small aircraft Y at this time was slightly below me and behind me being on final for runway 36. I was on final for runway 3 ahead and higher and faster than small aircraft Y. I landed on runway 3. The tower asked me to call them on the phone which I did. They asked me why I didn't pass behind small aircraft Y as instructed. I told them they never instructed me to do this and furthermore it would have been impossible to comply as I was ahead of and higher than small aircraft Y. I refused to give the tower my name. The tower operator informed me that I would be hearing from the FAA. Later that evening an FAA person called my house. He called 3 times. He did tell my wife that they had reviewed the tapes and that there was 'no problem'. Factors contributing: lack of radar at mathis field. Use of this control tower to train operators. Incompetent tower operators. Prevention: the situation need never have occurred if the tower operator had realized that my aircraft was ahead of small aircraft Y. He should have cleared me to land first on runway 36 and had small aircraft Y widen his base or extend his final. The incident put me in a possibly dangerous situation and also subjected me to the unnecessary harassment from the FAA.

Title: SMA REFUSES TO GIVE FAA PLT'S NAME AFTER INCIDENT PERTAINING TO LNDG SEQUENCE.

Narrative: MY ACFT, SMA X, DSNDING TO LAND, RWY 36, FROM THE W. TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO RPT 2 MI LEFT BASE RWY 36, WHICH I DID. MOMENTS LATER, SMA Y RPTED 2 MI RIGHT BASE RWY 36. TWR CLRED SMA Y TO LAND RWY 36. TWR CLRED ME TO LAND RWY 3. I REPEATED THE INSTRUCTION, 'CLRED TO LAND RWY 3'. TWR THEN ASKED ME, 'DO YOU HAVE SMA Y IN SIGHT?' I REPLIED, 'I HAVE THE ACFT IN SIGHT.' SMA Y AT THIS TIME WAS SLIGHTLY BELOW ME AND BEHIND ME BEING ON FINAL FOR RWY 36. I WAS ON FINAL FOR RWY 3 AHEAD AND HIGHER AND FASTER THAN SMA Y. I LANDED ON RWY 3. THE TWR ASKED ME TO CALL THEM ON THE PHONE WHICH I DID. THEY ASKED ME WHY I DIDN'T PASS BEHIND SMA Y AS INSTRUCTED. I TOLD THEM THEY NEVER INSTRUCTED ME TO DO THIS AND FURTHERMORE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPLY AS I WAS AHEAD OF AND HIGHER THAN SMA Y. I REFUSED TO GIVE THE TWR MY NAME. THE TWR OPERATOR INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD BE HEARING FROM THE FAA. LATER THAT EVENING AN FAA PERSON CALLED MY HOUSE. HE CALLED 3 TIMES. HE DID TELL MY WIFE THAT THEY HAD REVIEWED THE TAPES AND THAT THERE WAS 'NO PROB'. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING: LACK OF RADAR AT MATHIS FIELD. USE OF THIS CTL TWR TO TRAIN OPERATORS. INCOMPETENT TWR OPERATORS. PREVENTION: THE SITUATION NEED NEVER HAVE OCCURRED IF THE TWR OPERATOR HAD REALIZED THAT MY ACFT WAS AHEAD OF SMA Y. HE SHOULD HAVE CLRED ME TO LAND FIRST ON RWY 36 AND HAD SMA Y WIDEN HIS BASE OR EXTEND HIS FINAL. THE INCIDENT PUT ME IN A POSSIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND ALSO SUBJECTED ME TO THE UNNECESSARY HARASSMENT FROM THE FAA.
