Narrative:

Approach control cleared us for straight in visibility approach to runway 17. Approach control had called traffic ahead of us 3 times. We never saw the traffic, but this was a distraction. After switching to the tower we were told to report a 3 mi final. I got busy with checklists and did not make the 3 mi report. After we touched down, the tower cleared us to land. There was no other traffic in the traffic pattern or on the frequency. The tower had to have had us in sight for quite awhile and could have asked about the 3 mi report. Instead, he seemed more interested in playing 'gotcha'. I can't believe tower workload was a factor, since this is not a busy tower; no other traffic; no other radio communications. There is no doubt we blew it, but the tower was no help and could have easily resolved problem at his leisure.

Title: COMMUTER LTT UNAUTH LNDG.

Narrative: APCH CTL CLRED US FOR STRAIGHT IN VIS APCH TO RWY 17. APCH CTL HAD CALLED TFC AHEAD OF US 3 TIMES. WE NEVER SAW THE TFC, BUT THIS WAS A DISTR. AFTER SWITCHING TO THE TWR WE WERE TOLD TO RPT A 3 MI FINAL. I GOT BUSY WITH CHKLISTS AND DID NOT MAKE THE 3 MI RPT. AFTER WE TOUCHED DOWN, THE TWR CLRED US TO LAND. THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC IN THE TFC PATTERN OR ON THE FREQ. THE TWR HAD TO HAVE HAD US IN SIGHT FOR QUITE AWHILE AND COULD HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE 3 MI RPT. INSTEAD, HE SEEMED MORE INTERESTED IN PLAYING 'GOTCHA'. I CAN'T BELIEVE TWR WORKLOAD WAS A FACTOR, SINCE THIS IS NOT A BUSY TWR; NO OTHER TFC; NO OTHER RADIO COMS. THERE IS NO DOUBT WE BLEW IT, BUT THE TWR WAS NO HELP AND COULD HAVE EASILY RESOLVED PROB AT HIS LEISURE.
