Narrative:

During climb out with rdu departure on a heading of 050 degree we were handed off to ZDC and given an additional climb and cleared direct to fak VOR, the 1ST fix on our route of flight. Both vors were tuned and identified to fak and the aircraft turned to a heading of 035 degree direct. 2 mins later the controller asked where we were going and were told to 'head north'. We informed him we were going to fak as previously cleared and showed it heading of 035 degree. He said abruptly 'wrong' and passed us off to the next controller and informed him of our assigned heading of 010 degree direct to fak. It soon became obvious that the controller was assigning us a heading to ldn, our next fix after fak. The controller at this time realized we were causing a possible conflict on this heading and then assigned us a 110-120 turn back direct to fak. We attempted to inquire many times and inform the controllers that we showed the assigned headings would not take us to fak, but were very busy and did not take notice until it became necessary go give us a very large heading change to correct a possible conflict we saw coming from the original controller's headings.

Title: CTLR AGGRESSION AND INADEQUATE COM PROC CITED BY REPORTERS AS CAUSING CONFUSION DURING A DIRECT CLRNC AND THEN RADAR VECTORS TO A FLT PLAN POINT.

Narrative: DURING CLIMB OUT WITH RDU DEP ON A HDG OF 050 DEG WE WERE HANDED OFF TO ZDC AND GIVEN AN ADDITIONAL CLIMB AND CLRED DIRECT TO FAK VOR, THE 1ST FIX ON OUR ROUTE OF FLT. BOTH VORS WERE TUNED AND IDENTIFIED TO FAK AND THE ACFT TURNED TO A HDG OF 035 DEG DIRECT. 2 MINS LATER THE CTLR ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING AND WERE TOLD TO 'HEAD NORTH'. WE INFORMED HIM WE WERE GOING TO FAK AS PREVIOUSLY CLRED AND SHOWED IT HDG OF 035 DEG. HE SAID ABRUPTLY 'WRONG' AND PASSED US OFF TO THE NEXT CTLR AND INFORMED HIM OF OUR ASSIGNED HDG OF 010 DEG DIRECT TO FAK. IT SOON BECAME OBVIOUS THAT THE CTLR WAS ASSIGNING US A HDG TO LDN, OUR NEXT FIX AFTER FAK. THE CTLR AT THIS TIME REALIZED WE WERE CAUSING A POSSIBLE CONFLICT ON THIS HDG AND THEN ASSIGNED US A 110-120 TURN BACK DIRECT TO FAK. WE ATTEMPTED TO INQUIRE MANY TIMES AND INFORM THE CTLRS THAT WE SHOWED THE ASSIGNED HDGS WOULD NOT TAKE US TO FAK, BUT WERE VERY BUSY AND DID NOT TAKE NOTICE UNTIL IT BECAME NECESSARY GO GIVE US A VERY LARGE HDG CHANGE TO CORRECT A POSSIBLE CONFLICT WE SAW COMING FROM THE ORIGINAL CTLR'S HDGS.
