Narrative:
On departure we received a TA followed quickly by an RA to climb; then to maintain climb; then eventually a reversal to an aggressive descend now. I immediately complied with all of the RA commands; while the captain and I both tried to visually acquire the threat. It showed a relative altitude of zero throughout the TCAS climb and descent; as if shadowing us. Finally the captain selected the right transponder and the warnings stopped. During the event I exceeded 250 KTS under 10;000 feet. Max speed achieved was 270 KTS. When the conflict disappeared; I returned to a normal climb at 250 KTS and re-engaged the automation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 First Officer reported the TCAS system displayed traffic co-located with their position; no visual contact established. Changing transponders solved the problem.
