Narrative:
Just after departure; both ap trim fail annunciators illuminated; followed by the boxed east on the pfd. The autopilot was disconnected; and force was required to maintain altitude; and the normal pitch trim seemed to be quite sluggish. Being that this condition has been duplicated multiple times on this aircraft; we elected to return for maintenance. We ran the appropriate checklists and continued for a normal approach and landing. ATC was notified of the condition; and no emergency was declared.
