Narrative:

While performing a rejected takeoff I heard an aircraft behind us get clearance for takeoff on our runway. We were unable to get a word into ATC to advise them that we were rejecting. There was so much talking and people stepping on each other to figure out takeoff sequences. I would have preferred to remain on the runway to evaluate the reason we rejected; fumes in the cockpit. I chose to exit the runway in hopes of not being ran over.I do not think aircraft should be cleared for takeoff before the preceding aircraft has departed the runway.
