Narrative:

ZAB ARTCC assigns non-discrete 0700 codes to IFR air carrier's departing abq, each of which must be manually track-started on ARTS III-a, and sometimes manually handed off. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter experience: 3 yrs radar, 8 yrs military. Reporter stated the assigning of 0700 codes to IFR aircraft is an occasional occurrence. The reporter had informed her supervisor, but had not received an answer as to why 0700 beacon codes were being assigned. Reporter was advised to ask the automation specialist at abq TRACON to investigate the matter.

Narrative: ZAB ARTCC ASSIGNS NON-DISCRETE 0700 CODES TO IFR ACR'S DEPARTING ABQ, EACH OF WHICH MUST BE MANUALLY TRACK-STARTED ON ARTS III-A, AND SOMETIMES MANUALLY HANDED OFF. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR EXPERIENCE: 3 YRS RADAR, 8 YRS MIL. RPTR STATED THE ASSIGNING OF 0700 CODES TO IFR ACFT IS AN OCCASIONAL OCCURRENCE. THE RPTR HAD INFORMED HER SUPVR, BUT HAD NOT RECEIVED AN ANSWER AS TO WHY 0700 BEACON CODES WERE BEING ASSIGNED. RPTR WAS ADVISED TO ASK THE AUTOMATION SPECIALIST AT ABQ TRACON TO INVESTIGATE THE MATTER.
