Narrative:
Shortly after reaching cruise altitude, x-feed operations were begun. Approximately 20 mins into x-feed operations it was observed that #3 tank qty was increasing while 2R qty was decreasing faster than 2L. Maximum differential between 2L and 2R was approximately 4500#. In accordance with flight handbook directives, x-feed operations were terminated. This resulted in #3 engine momentarily decreasing to idle power. Engine power returned to normal after 20 seconds. Immediate clearance back to jfk was obtained, and a satisfactory precautionary landing accomplished.

Title: ACR WDB HAD FUEL CROSS-FEED PROBLEMS AT TOP OF CLIMB AT THE START OF AN EXTENDED OVERWATHER OPERATION. ACFT RETURNED TO DEP ARPT FOR PRECAUTIONARY LNDG.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER REACHING CRUISE ALT, X-FEED OPS WERE BEGUN. APPROX 20 MINS INTO X-FEED OPS IT WAS OBSERVED THAT #3 TANK QTY WAS INCREASING WHILE 2R QTY WAS DECREASING FASTER THAN 2L. MAXIMUM DIFFERENTIAL BTWN 2L AND 2R WAS APPROX 4500#. IN ACCORDANCE WITH FLT HANDBOOK DIRECTIVES, X-FEED OPS WERE TERMINATED. THIS RESULTED IN #3 ENG MOMENTARILY DECREASING TO IDLE PWR. ENG PWR RETURNED TO NORMAL AFTER 20 SECS. IMMEDIATE CLRNC BACK TO JFK WAS OBTAINED, AND A SATISFACTORY PRECAUTIONARY LNDG ACCOMPLISHED.
