On climbout we received an E2 fire det fail EICAS message. Decided to [advise ATC] and return to ZZZ due to the fact we do not know why the fire loop had failed. Had fire rescue meet us on the ground and inspect #2 engine for anomalies. Taxied to the gate and deplaned passengers. Faulty fire loop in the number 2 engine.other than routine mx; this was an unlikely event and needs to be handled by occasion.
