Narrative:

While in cruise at 31000' MSL, at the above described location, our flight en route between sjc and yvr asked ZDV on frequency 135.37 for a ride report for FL350. Center said he had no reports and to check with the next center (slc center). We then requested climb clearance to FL350. ZDV returned with our climb clearance to climb to FL350. We began our climb as cleared. Very shortly after we began our clear, ZDV switched our flight over to slc center. After we contacted slc center we advised them of our climb to FL350. The controller rogered the radio transmission, then came back and advised our flight that ZDV did not issue the clearance to climb to FL350. The captain, my first officer and I heard and acknowledged the clearance issued by ZDV. Shortly after this discussion slc center said to continue the climb to FL350. While my first officer monitored the current salt lake frequency, I returned to ZDV (135.37) and asked ZDV and clarified with the controller that he did indeed issue our climb clearance to FL350. The controller said he did issue the climb clearance. I then returned to slc center and repeated to him what ZDV had said. He (slc center) still said he had not received the clearance from ZDV. Slc center said it was not a problem, however he would investigate the problem. Summary: I believe due to our location that when we were handed off from ZDV to slc center, the climb clearance was not relayed, and the first reaction from slc center was to deny we were cleared. I further believe this problem was a controller oversight.

Title: ACR FLT CREW EXPRESSES CONCERN THAT NEXT SECTOR ARTCC RADAR CTLR CHALLENGES THEIR CLIMB CLRNC. FLT CREW CONFIRMS WITH PREVIOUS CTLR TO EFFECT A SOLUTION.

Narrative: WHILE IN CRUISE AT 31000' MSL, AT THE ABOVE DESCRIBED LOCATION, OUR FLT ENRTE BTWN SJC AND YVR ASKED ZDV ON FREQ 135.37 FOR A RIDE RPT FOR FL350. CENTER SAID HE HAD NO RPTS AND TO CHK WITH THE NEXT CENTER (SLC CENTER). WE THEN REQUESTED CLB CLRNC TO FL350. ZDV RETURNED WITH OUR CLB CLRNC TO CLB TO FL350. WE BEGAN OUR CLB AS CLRED. VERY SHORTLY AFTER WE BEGAN OUR CLR, ZDV SWITCHED OUR FLT OVER TO SLC CENTER. AFTER WE CONTACTED SLC CENTER WE ADVISED THEM OF OUR CLB TO FL350. THE CTLR ROGERED THE RADIO XMISSION, THEN CAME BACK AND ADVISED OUR FLT THAT ZDV DID NOT ISSUE THE CLRNC TO CLB TO FL350. THE CAPT, MY F/O AND I HEARD AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC ISSUED BY ZDV. SHORTLY AFTER THIS DISCUSSION SLC CENTER SAID TO CONTINUE THE CLB TO FL350. WHILE MY F/O MONITORED THE CURRENT SALT LAKE FREQ, I RETURNED TO ZDV (135.37) AND ASKED ZDV AND CLARIFIED WITH THE CTLR THAT HE DID INDEED ISSUE OUR CLB CLRNC TO FL350. THE CTLR SAID HE DID ISSUE THE CLB CLRNC. I THEN RETURNED TO SLC CENTER AND REPEATED TO HIM WHAT ZDV HAD SAID. HE (SLC CENTER) STILL SAID HE HAD NOT RECEIVED THE CLRNC FROM ZDV. SLC CENTER SAID IT WAS NOT A PROB, HOWEVER HE WOULD INVESTIGATE THE PROB. SUMMARY: I BELIEVE DUE TO OUR LOCATION THAT WHEN WE WERE HANDED OFF FROM ZDV TO SLC CENTER, THE CLB CLRNC WAS NOT RELAYED, AND THE FIRST REACTION FROM SLC CENTER WAS TO DENY WE WERE CLRED. I FURTHER BELIEVE THIS PROB WAS A CTLR OVERSIGHT.
