Narrative:

I completed refueling aircraft, small aircraft X, at botsford airport, wellington, oh in preparation for hangaring the aircraft at the same aircraft (I had just completed a 1 hour flight from the same airport, having landed at about xy:30 EST). I then attempted to start the engine by pulling the propeller with the throttle closed and the ignition switch on, in preparation for taxiing the aircraft to its hangar (located about 100 yds from the self-help fuel pump). It fired once but then stopped. I continued pulling the propeller about 10 more time with no success. I then primed the engine and again pulled the propeller but with no success. I then opened the throttle and turned the ignition switch off to unflood the engine. I again pulled the propeller, then turned the switch on, but forgot to close the throttle. Then when I pulled the propeller, the engine started immediately and the aircraft started to roll. I quickly attempted to reach the cockpit but slipped and fell. The aircraft started rolling in a n-erly direction. As I attempted to get up, the aircraft rolled by me and I attempted to grab the stabilizer, but failed. The aircraft continued until the right wing tip hit the corner of an adjacent hangar, causing the aircraft to turn slightly and continued rolling about another 20 yds until it stopped upon hitting at right angles a parked loaded sail plane trailer. Propping an aircraft of this type should not be attempted west/O proper wheel chocking and a qualified pilot at the controls, and should not be attempted alone.

Title: HAND-PROPPED SMA TAXIS WITHOUT PLT.

Narrative: I COMPLETED REFUELING ACFT, SMA X, AT BOTSFORD ARPT, WELLINGTON, OH IN PREPARATION FOR HANGARING THE ACFT AT THE SAME ACFT (I HAD JUST COMPLETED A 1 HR FLT FROM THE SAME ARPT, HAVING LANDED AT ABOUT XY:30 EST). I THEN ATTEMPTED TO START THE ENG BY PULLING THE PROP WITH THE THROTTLE CLOSED AND THE IGNITION SWITCH ON, IN PREPARATION FOR TAXIING THE ACFT TO ITS HANGAR (LOCATED ABOUT 100 YDS FROM THE SELF-HELP FUEL PUMP). IT FIRED ONCE BUT THEN STOPPED. I CONTINUED PULLING THE PROP ABOUT 10 MORE TIME WITH NO SUCCESS. I THEN PRIMED THE ENG AND AGAIN PULLED THE PROP BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. I THEN OPENED THE THROTTLE AND TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF TO UNFLOOD THE ENG. I AGAIN PULLED THE PROP, THEN TURNED THE SWITCH ON, BUT FORGOT TO CLOSE THE THROTTLE. THEN WHEN I PULLED THE PROP, THE ENG STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND THE ACFT STARTED TO ROLL. I QUICKLY ATTEMPTED TO REACH THE COCKPIT BUT SLIPPED AND FELL. THE ACFT STARTED ROLLING IN A N-ERLY DIRECTION. AS I ATTEMPTED TO GET UP, THE ACFT ROLLED BY ME AND I ATTEMPTED TO GRAB THE STABILIZER, BUT FAILED. THE ACFT CONTINUED UNTIL THE RIGHT WING TIP HIT THE CORNER OF AN ADJACENT HANGAR, CAUSING THE ACFT TO TURN SLIGHTLY AND CONTINUED ROLLING ABOUT ANOTHER 20 YDS UNTIL IT STOPPED UPON HITTING AT RIGHT ANGLES A PARKED LOADED SAIL PLANE TRAILER. PROPPING AN ACFT OF THIS TYPE SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED W/O PROPER WHEEL CHOCKING AND A QUALIFIED PLT AT THE CTLS, AND SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED ALONE.
