Departed sju with a waters routing from dispatch. In the climb discovered aircraft was limited extended overwater (162 miles); rerouted aircraft to comply with 162 [mile] rule. Dispatch filed incorrect route and [this was] not discovered at gate. Change software to not allow route to aircraft.

Title: An Airbus Captain and Company Dispatcher reported the aircraft was initially filed on a route that would have taken them beyond the certificated 162-mile limit.
Narrative: Departed SJU with a WATERS routing from dispatch. In the climb discovered aircraft was Limited Extended Overwater (162 miles); rerouted aircraft to comply with 162 [mile] rule. Dispatch filed incorrect route and [this was] not discovered at gate. Change software to not allow route to aircraft.
