Narrative:

I was conducting IOE with a new first officer who had been having some problems. I was flying this leg and giving briefings to first officer. When cleared to approach frequency, we were told to expect vectors to 19R visibility. We were set up for this with ILS and map backup. Approach asked our speed, which was 250 KTS assigned 4000'. We were requested to maintain maximum forward to airport. No vector was even given for approach. We were then asked if we had airport in sight. We did. We were then asked if we had traffic, which was comp straight in for 19R. We did, and were then cleared visibility 19R. At this point,I turned slightly left to give myself what I thought would be a workable base leg and still clear runway for traffic following. When on a greater than 90 degree intercept, our G/south indications are inhibited, so I had no vertical guidance. I saw the lights of runway 14 very dimly, and then I saw what I thought were 19R lights very bright. I knew this was going to be a tight approach, so when I picked up the runway lights, I stayed mostly outside, coming back only to scan airspeed and sing rate. I landed in the G/D zone in a fully stable condition, and with normal braking turned off to the left toward what I thought was the terminal, only to discover I was looking at an small aircraft. I realized at that point where I was just as tower told us we made a wrong turn and directed us right to B and to the terminal. I made a major mistake for which I will take the responsibility. I do feel, however, that I had some help getting there. I expected a vector to a normal position from which to conduct a visibility approach which I did not get and I had no way of judging the distance to the traffic's light accurately. Having been expedited for the entire approach, I was trying too hard to make it work. I have been to ict before, but it is not a location with which I am intimately familiar, and when I saw the very bright lights on the left and was unable to see the 19R lights because they were at a much lower setting. At no time did tower advise that I was overshooting or lined up with wrong runway.

Title: ACR LINE CHECK AIRMAN, CAPT AND PF, CONDUCTING IOE ON NEW FO, LANDS ON WRONG RWY.

Narrative: I WAS CONDUCTING IOE WITH A NEW F/O WHO HAD BEEN HAVING SOME PROBS. I WAS FLYING THIS LEG AND GIVING BRIEFINGS TO F/O. WHEN CLRED TO APCH FREQ, WE WERE TOLD TO EXPECT VECTORS TO 19R VIS. WE WERE SET UP FOR THIS WITH ILS AND MAP BACKUP. APCH ASKED OUR SPD, WHICH WAS 250 KTS ASSIGNED 4000'. WE WERE REQUESTED TO MAINTAIN MAX FORWARD TO ARPT. NO VECTOR WAS EVEN GIVEN FOR APCH. WE WERE THEN ASKED IF WE HAD ARPT IN SIGHT. WE DID. WE WERE THEN ASKED IF WE HAD TFC, WHICH WAS COMP STRAIGHT IN FOR 19R. WE DID, AND WERE THEN CLRED VIS 19R. AT THIS POINT,I TURNED SLIGHTLY LEFT TO GIVE MYSELF WHAT I THOUGHT WOULD BE A WORKABLE BASE LEG AND STILL CLR RWY FOR TFC FOLLOWING. WHEN ON A GREATER THAN 90 DEG INTERCEPT, OUR G/S INDICATIONS ARE INHIBITED, SO I HAD NO VERT GUIDANCE. I SAW THE LIGHTS OF RWY 14 VERY DIMLY, AND THEN I SAW WHAT I THOUGHT WERE 19R LIGHTS VERY BRIGHT. I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO BE A TIGHT APCH, SO WHEN I PICKED UP THE RWY LIGHTS, I STAYED MOSTLY OUTSIDE, COMING BACK ONLY TO SCAN AIRSPD AND SING RATE. I LANDED IN THE G/D ZONE IN A FULLY STABLE CONDITION, AND WITH NORMAL BRAKING TURNED OFF TO THE LEFT TOWARD WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE TERMINAL, ONLY TO DISCOVER I WAS LOOKING AT AN SMA. I REALIZED AT THAT POINT WHERE I WAS JUST AS TWR TOLD US WE MADE A WRONG TURN AND DIRECTED US RIGHT TO B AND TO THE TERMINAL. I MADE A MAJOR MISTAKE FOR WHICH I WILL TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY. I DO FEEL, HOWEVER, THAT I HAD SOME HELP GETTING THERE. I EXPECTED A VECTOR TO A NORMAL POS FROM WHICH TO CONDUCT A VIS APCH WHICH I DID NOT GET AND I HAD NO WAY OF JUDGING THE DISTANCE TO THE TFC'S LIGHT ACCURATELY. HAVING BEEN EXPEDITED FOR THE ENTIRE APCH, I WAS TRYING TOO HARD TO MAKE IT WORK. AT NO TIME DID TWR ADVISE THAT I WAS OVERSHOOTING OR LINED UP WITH WRONG RWY.
