Object was approximately 20 balloons tied together with a box-shaped object suspended below. Object was initially sighted at approximately 5 NM. Evasive action was taken by first officer at approximately 1.5 NM. Evasive action was a 35-40 degree bank and slight pull-up. Object was reported to ZDC.

Narrative: OBJECT WAS APPROX 20 BALLOONS TIED TOGETHER WITH A BOX-SHAPED OBJECT SUSPENDED BELOW. OBJECT WAS INITIALLY SIGHTED AT APPROX 5 NM. EVASIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN BY F/O AT APPROX 1.5 NM. EVASIVE ACTION WAS A 35-40 DEG BANK AND SLIGHT PULL-UP. OBJECT WAS RPTED TO ZDC.
