Narrative:

I called oakland tower who said, 'cleared for takeoff, runway 29, turn left 270 degree'. I repeated back the clearance and departed. Once airborne and climbing out I turned left and began a turn to 020 degree heading which I interpreted to be the instruction. Tower called me abruptly and stated again, 'turn left to 270 degree'. I repeated, 'left to 270' and began an immediate right turn back to a heading of 270 degree. I realized the controller wanted me to turn out to a heading of 270 and not a 270 turnout as I had been doing. Things got heated fast. Tower called again and said, 'give me an immediate right turn'. I turned right to a heading of 360. Tower called again with much stress and said, 'turn immediately right, at least 40 degree'. I then turned to a heading of 040 degree. Evidently at medium large transport took off behind me and was in very close proximity. The tower reprimanded me by saying, 'if you don't understand these instructions you need to query the tower'. I agreed. Tower handed me off to bay departure control. We were both pretty shook up. I proceeded with my climb to 2900 MSL. I had planned this would keep me out of the san francisco TCA. The floor was 3000 MSL where my flight path was to be. However, the above mishap took me into the 2100 MSL sector floor of the TCA. So I busted the TCA.

Title: PLT OF SMT CLEARED TURN LEFT 270 INTERPRETED THE CLRNC TO MEAN A 270 DEGREE TURN TO THE LEFT. WRONG. CONFUSION RESULTED AND PLT PENETRATED LOWER LEVEL OF TCA DEPARTING OAK VFR.

Narrative: I CALLED OAKLAND TWR WHO SAID, 'CLRED FOR TKOF, RWY 29, TURN LEFT 270 DEG'. I REPEATED BACK THE CLRNC AND DEPARTED. ONCE AIRBORNE AND CLIMBING OUT I TURNED LEFT AND BEGAN A TURN TO 020 DEG HDG WHICH I INTERPRETED TO BE THE INSTRUCTION. TWR CALLED ME ABRUPTLY AND STATED AGAIN, 'TURN LEFT TO 270 DEG'. I REPEATED, 'LEFT TO 270' AND BEGAN AN IMMEDIATE RIGHT TURN BACK TO A HDG OF 270 DEG. I REALIZED THE CTLR WANTED ME TO TURN OUT TO A HDG OF 270 AND NOT A 270 TURNOUT AS I HAD BEEN DOING. THINGS GOT HEATED FAST. TWR CALLED AGAIN AND SAID, 'GIVE ME AN IMMEDIATE RIGHT TURN'. I TURNED RIGHT TO A HDG OF 360. TWR CALLED AGAIN WITH MUCH STRESS AND SAID, 'TURN IMMEDIATELY RIGHT, AT LEAST 40 DEG'. I THEN TURNED TO A HDG OF 040 DEG. EVIDENTLY AT MLG TOOK OFF BEHIND ME AND WAS IN VERY CLOSE PROX. THE TWR REPRIMANDED ME BY SAYING, 'IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THESE INSTRUCTIONS YOU NEED TO QUERY THE TWR'. I AGREED. TWR HANDED ME OFF TO BAY DEP CTL. WE WERE BOTH PRETTY SHOOK UP. I PROCEEDED WITH MY CLIMB TO 2900 MSL. I HAD PLANNED THIS WOULD KEEP ME OUT OF THE SAN FRANCISCO TCA. THE FLOOR WAS 3000 MSL WHERE MY FLT PATH WAS TO BE. HOWEVER, THE ABOVE MISHAP TOOK ME INTO THE 2100 MSL SECTOR FLOOR OF THE TCA. SO I BUSTED THE TCA.
