Narrative:

I was working dallas south sector at dfw approach. I had just come to work and had been on position only a few mins. Traffic was moderate--I did not have a handoff man. Beside the 6 or 7 aircraft I was controling, I had an mtf inbound for navy dallas who had declared minimum fuel. The MTR had taken a wrong heading from a previous controller that I was trying to correct, as well as coordinate his arrival with dfw tower and nbe gca. During all of this, air carrier X, eastbound at 4000', advised that they needed to return to dfw. I asked the nature of the problem, and they stated only that they needed to return. A few moments later, they said they needed to land at dal because it was closer. When I again asked why, they said they had smoke in the cockpit and had shut down the right engine. I issued a heading and descended to 3000' for a visibility approach to runway 13L. They did not declare an emergency. I gave the inbound to dal as an emergency, with the above information, and later relayed souls on board and fuel. Air carrier X reported sighting airport over ads; visibility approach clearance was issued. Dal tower later reported that they landed hard, but everyone got out of the aircraft. After everything was over, I realized I had not issued WX, wind or altimeter for dal. Also, the wind was approximately 200 at 15. I had not considered using runway 18.

Title: CTLR HAD 2 EMERGENCIES IN PROGRESS AT THE SAME TIME.

Narrative: I WAS WORKING DALLAS S SECTOR AT DFW APCH. I HAD JUST COME TO WORK AND HAD BEEN ON POS ONLY A FEW MINS. TFC WAS MODERATE--I DID NOT HAVE A HDOF MAN. BESIDE THE 6 OR 7 ACFT I WAS CTLING, I HAD AN MTF INBND FOR NAVY DALLAS WHO HAD DECLARED MINIMUM FUEL. THE MTR HAD TAKEN A WRONG HDG FROM A PREVIOUS CTLR THAT I WAS TRYING TO CORRECT, AS WELL AS COORDINATE HIS ARR WITH DFW TWR AND NBE GCA. DURING ALL OF THIS, ACR X, EBND AT 4000', ADVISED THAT THEY NEEDED TO RETURN TO DFW. I ASKED THE NATURE OF THE PROB, AND THEY STATED ONLY THAT THEY NEEDED TO RETURN. A FEW MOMENTS LATER, THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO LAND AT DAL BECAUSE IT WAS CLOSER. WHEN I AGAIN ASKED WHY, THEY SAID THEY HAD SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT AND HAD SHUT DOWN THE RIGHT ENG. I ISSUED A HDG AND DSNDED TO 3000' FOR A VIS APCH TO RWY 13L. THEY DID NOT DECLARE AN EMER. I GAVE THE INBND TO DAL AS AN EMER, WITH THE ABOVE INFO, AND LATER RELAYED SOULS ON BOARD AND FUEL. ACR X RPTED SIGHTING ARPT OVER ADS; VIS APCH CLRNC WAS ISSUED. DAL TWR LATER RPTED THAT THEY LANDED HARD, BUT EVERYONE GOT OUT OF THE ACFT. AFTER EVERYTHING WAS OVER, I REALIZED I HAD NOT ISSUED WX, WIND OR ALTIMETER FOR DAL. ALSO, THE WIND WAS APPROX 200 AT 15. I HAD NOT CONSIDERED USING RWY 18.
