Narrative:

On 10/mon/89, I rented an small aircraft from an FBO, tulsa, ok, for the purpose of taking a CFI chkride with the wichita FSDO. During the oral section of the chkride, the aircraft log books were requested and presented to the examiner for inspection. The review of the log books brought to light that some of the airworthiness directives for this aircraft had not been recorded as being complied with. My concern is about flying an aircraft, as PIC, thinking that the aircraft is in an airworthy condition, then finding out the maintenance records are not up to date. I did check the log books before the flight to make sure that the annual and 100-hour inspections were within the proper times, but did not do an a.D. Search, taking at face value that the airworthiness directives would have been researched and complied with at the time of the annual and 100-hour inspections.
