Narrative:

Prior to arrival; my company dispatch simply instructed me that my ground destination was abcd/FBO north. Within the past 12 months; I had been there before; and my airport diagram dated 02 april 2015 thru 30 april 2015 confirmed my recollection of location. However; after clearing runway 3 right (the landing runway) onto W4; metro ground asked us where we wanted to go; because; there were two locations to choose from. Relying upon my airport diagram; and the instructions from dispatch; I stated that we needed to go to abcd/FBO north; after which metro ground gave us instructions that seemed to confirm my anticipated routing - - taxiing on west; P4; P; cross 27Right. This we did; and upon arrival; we found that the location was seemingly unmanned. So I instructed the copilot to stop the plane until I got clarification from the ground controller. After querying metro ground; we were told that the location where we were was no longer being used; and that there were two locations to choose; one on the south side; and the other referred to as to the north location; but on the west side of runway 21 right. That is when I became dumbfounded because it was contrary to what I was viewing and relying upon with my current airport diagram. I informed the ground controller as to what I was actually looking at with respect to my airport diagram; and he informed me that is was outdated. I then told him that I needed to stop the plane and call my dispatch. So on taxiway P; we stopped; and I called dispatch; and asked that he be specific as to where the FBO that I needed to be at was located on the field. What I was then told matched what I was being told by the ground controller; despite what I was looking at on my seemingly out dated airport diagram. So I thanked dispatch and told the ground controller that we needed to be at the FBO on the west side of 21 right. He then gave; and I wrote down; the following taxi instructions: P; P4; west; V; M; cross 21 right as the first officer (first officer) taxied the aircraft; I gave him status as to his location; and the to be expected turns. However; as we approached hot spot 4; the taxi instructions that we were given did not seem to match with what I was looking at on an 'out dated;' but current airport diagram; in particular it did not look like west was necessary; but a hard right turn onto V; so I asked the ground controller if he was sure that we needed to turn onto west; and he replied; right on west; right on V; and cross 21 right. As we came upon the intersection of hot spot 4; the lighted signage was sorely placed; and very lacking. I saw that the first officer was making a right turn as I looked down to try to understand how we were supposed to turn right onto taxiway west; and again onto taxiway V. It was then that we came to a hold short line for a runway. I knew that ATC had given us instructions to cross a runway; and when the first officer mentioned that we were coming upon a runway; I said yes continue; at which point I became momentarily disoriented; until the ground controller said to continue down 27 right; cross 21 right; and turn right on M. At that point; I reacquired my position awareness; and no further discussion was spoken by the crew; or metro ground concerning the unauthorized runway access...as we made our way to the mysterious FBO utilizing an 'outdated;' but current airport diagram.
