Narrative:

Pilot flying at 24,000' wanted lower so as to make normal descent to expected crossing requirements on STAR. Ft worth would only give us FL230 until we were very close to scurry VOR and then gave us a 280 KT speed restriction and a crossing restriction of 5 mi beyond scurry at 11,000'. Several aircraft in front of us had same situation and told controller they were unable to make crossing. I also acknowledged the restriction and told controller I didn't think there was any way to make the crossing. We used all devices available considering the speed restriction and crossed at 14,000'. Supplemental information from acn 125390: we were cleared to cross a fix at 11,000'. (This crossing was not published on the STAR.) we were too close to the fix to have any possibility of making the crossing. We immediately informed the controller that we couldn't make it. His response was 'roger'.
