Narrative:
Engine fire warning/failure on takeoff at approximately 1700' AGL, due to failure of bleed-air duct. Returned to departure station. Landing uneventful. Dumped about 2500-3000 pounds fuel. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: we thought we had an engine fire an discharged CO2 with no effect on fire light. Meantime we were so over landing weight I felt it mandatory that we dump fuel. Had some reaction from people on ground that had the fuel dumped on them from low altitude. Did a turn around and landed downwind on 14R 8 KTS tailwind. Ground equipment met us. Turned out a hot air duct had burst and kept feeding to the fire alarm sensor.
