Narrative:
I was instructed by my boss to check a student's preflight planning in order for him to continue on his x-country flight. He is a student pilot working on his private. I had just finished my daily work assignment and was on my way out the door. I had been working very hard for some time so I was tired! I also, being a CFI-instructor/multi engine, had signed off a student for a commercial check ride. The examiner was asking me questions along with the student I signed off. All of this was taking place during the time I was checking the preflight planning for the x-country student. His planning was correct, but I asked to check his medical certificate for the proper x-country endorsement, which had not been signed and on impulse without flying with him I endorsed it, then left to go home. Needless to say he was ramped and I got the shaft. Also, I recently moved to my present location from ft worth, tx, and my commercial pilot's license was misplaced for 2 months. I had the temporary but not the hard copy. So I flew for 2 months without the hard copy and the temporary out of date, waiting for it to come in the mail. I did not do this out of spite or vengeance. I am trying to become the best pilot I can. I try to do everything in proper order but I am only human.
