Narrative:

First day on new job, I was cleared to taxi to runway 17 for takeoff. I taxied east off of ramp. I then was not sure of my exact position and thought I might have taxied onto runway 35. I advised tower I needed progress taxi and where I thought I was. They then cleared me for an immediate takeoff. I taxied onto what I thought was 35, and began my takeoff roll, and realized there were green lights that ended up ahead. I began to shutdown the aircraft. Tower then realized the mistake, warned me of the situation, and advised me to stop. As I slowed I rolled off the ramp and onto grass. I then taxied back, checked my aircraft and got new clrncs for takeoff.
