Narrative:

We checked in with tower ready for takeoff. Tower advised to hold short. We held short for approximately 2-3 mins, then were cleared into position. We replied, 'into position and hold.' we taxied into position and held. After approximately 1-2 mins an small aircraft passed over head and landed. We never heard him cleared to land or even knew that he was on approach. After he landed we asked the tower and they said to hold short, and in about 20 seconds or less, we were cleared for takeoff. They never said a word after we departed the airport, nor when we returned.
