Narrative:

While on a local flight from salem airpark to youngstown municipal airport, I encountered a complete engine failure. I was level at 2500', receiving vectors from youngstown approach to follow an aircraft on a final for runway 5. After I was given my second vector, there was a minor explosion. I had lost all power. I may-day'ed the occurrence to youngstown approach. I then went through all emergency checks prescribed in the poh. Without power I chose a field 6/10 of a mile southwest of state route 11. A successful forced landing was made. No property damage, personal injury, or aircraft damage was sustained.
