Narrative:

On flight from ord to mia we were unable to comply with O'hare 8 departure. We were very heavy at 173,000. We reached 4000' at about 8.5 mi instead of 8 mi. The ATC controller on departure control told us that we had better notify him prior to departure if we cannot comply with the SID. From now on we plan to notify departure any time we are heavy that we may not comply.
