Narrative:

ATC gave a vector which would have sent the aircraft into a thunderstorm and pilot refused vector. ATC stated a conflict existed with aircraft which was at 9000'. Our climb clearance was to 10000'. The solution was a level off at 6000'. ATC appeared to not be aware of WX or did not consider it a problem. The WX appeared red on the WX radar on the aircraft. The controller seemed unreasonable in his demand for the turn. We continued straight ahead for 8-10 NM to clear the thunderstorm then turned to vectored heading.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG REFUSES VECTOR INTO AREA OF SEVERE WX.

Narrative: ATC GAVE A VECTOR WHICH WOULD HAVE SENT THE ACFT INTO A TSTM AND PLT REFUSED VECTOR. ATC STATED A CONFLICT EXISTED WITH ACFT WHICH WAS AT 9000'. OUR CLB CLRNC WAS TO 10000'. THE SOLUTION WAS A LEVEL OFF AT 6000'. ATC APPEARED TO NOT BE AWARE OF WX OR DID NOT CONSIDER IT A PROB. THE WX APPEARED RED ON THE WX RADAR ON THE ACFT. THE CTLR SEEMED UNREASONABLE IN HIS DEMAND FOR THE TURN. WE CONTINUED STRAIGHT AHEAD FOR 8-10 NM TO CLR THE TSTM THEN TURNED TO VECTORED HDG.
