Narrative:

*On an IFR flight plan at 6000' and IMC, I experienced a loss of side tone and a temporary loss of communication with ATC. After reducing electrical loads I was able to communicate on battery power. I squawked 7600 continuously for radio communication failure. After much conversation and vectors I finally got vectored to dtw for landing in reduced visibility. I did not receive expedited handling and only after the controller asked me if this was an emergency did I get better service. I would like clarification of the code 7600. I had informed ATC that I had lost my generator and did not know how long my communication would last.
