Narrative:

We were cleared to taxi via taxiway C to runway 27. After crossing runway 4L we started our 3RD engine, then proceeded with taxi checklist, during this time we were told to 'expedite across runway 33'. Taxiway C was coming to a 'Y' and although I glanced at the airport diagram, I also saw a widebody transport awaiting takeoff. The widebody transport was what drew me to make a right turn instead of a left turn at the 'Y'. First officer had started #3 engine with the second officer and was reading checklist and answering radio. After turning right we were past the stop bar and saw an medium large transport taking off on the runway we were planning to cross. We stopped, ground control then saw us and told us to: stop, hold position and cleared us to tower. The medium large transport completed the takeoff and we were then cleared onto the runway to backtrack on same runway (27) to takeoff position.

Title: REPORTER FLT CREW BECAME DISORIENTED DURING TAXI AND NEARLY TAXIED ONTO ACTIVE RWY AND INTO PATH OF ACFT ON TKOF ROLL.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI VIA TXWY C TO RWY 27. AFTER XING RWY 4L WE STARTED OUR 3RD ENGINE, THEN PROCEEDED WITH TAXI CHECKLIST, DURING THIS TIME WE WERE TOLD TO 'EXPEDITE ACROSS RWY 33'. TXWY C WAS COMING TO A 'Y' AND ALTHOUGH I GLANCED AT THE ARPT DIAGRAM, I ALSO SAW A WDB AWAITING TKOF. THE WDB WAS WHAT DREW ME TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INSTEAD OF A LEFT TURN AT THE 'Y'. F/O HAD STARTED #3 ENGINE WITH THE S/O AND WAS READING CHECKLIST AND ANSWERING RADIO. AFTER TURNING RIGHT WE WERE PAST THE STOP BAR AND SAW AN MLG TAKING OFF ON THE RWY WE WERE PLANNING TO CROSS. WE STOPPED, GND CTL THEN SAW US AND TOLD US TO: STOP, HOLD POSITION AND CLRED US TO TWR. THE MLG COMPLETED THE TKOF AND WE WERE THEN CLRED ONTO THE RWY TO BACKTRACK ON SAME RWY (27) TO TKOF POSITION.
