Narrative:

Mlt X made an initial report from glendale (12 mi northeast of goodyear airport), and was instructed by ATC to report 2 mi east of goodyear airport. Additionally, mlt X was issued traffic on an small aircraft, also inbound from the northeast. When the small aircraft reported in the airport traffic pattern, mlt X was queried as to his location. Mlt X reported north of the airport (instead of east). The controller spotted mlt X, and small aircraft Y (an aircraft flying a west pattern at the airport) was told to go around to avoid conflict with mlt X. The occurrence appears to have resulted from inaccurate position reports.

Title: MLT CREATED A POTENTIAL CONFLICTION WITH ANOTHER ACFT WHILE ENTERING THE TRAFFIC PATTERN.

Narrative: MLT X MADE AN INITIAL REPORT FROM GLENDALE (12 MI NE OF GOODYEAR ARPT), AND WAS INSTRUCTED BY ATC TO REPORT 2 MI E OF GOODYEAR ARPT. ADDITIONALLY, MLT X WAS ISSUED TFC ON AN SMA, ALSO INBND FROM THE NE. WHEN THE SMA REPORTED IN THE ARPT TFC PATTERN, MLT X WAS QUERIED AS TO HIS LOCATION. MLT X REPORTED N OF THE ARPT (INSTEAD OF E). THE CTLR SPOTTED MLT X, AND SMA Y (AN ACFT FLYING A W PATTERN AT THE ARPT) WAS TOLD TO GO AROUND TO AVOID CONFLICT WITH MLT X. THE OCCURRENCE APPEARS TO HAVE RESULTED FROM INACCURATE POSITION REPORTS.
