Narrative:

On a clear morning, I was at placerville airport and, as an small aircraft began its takeoff roll, I inadvertently allowed the nose of my aircraft to enter the runway. The pilot of the small aircraft saw what had happened and got his aircraft off the runway before a collision took place. I simply had not taken the time to properly familiarize myself with the airport and blindly followed a yellow taxiway line, believing it to be the route to the runup area. The problem arose because I was not paying attention to what I was doing. I discovered my mistake when I saw one of the broken white lines indicating the runway centerline. I immediately stopped my aircraft and shut down, the pilot of the small aircraft issued an epithet on the radio appropriate for the situation. The human performance consideration is easy to analyze, I was following a line on some pavement rather than to the entire situation surrounding me. My inaction was simply to follow that line, rather than look to see where it went. If there was any factor affecting my performance it was thinking about where I would be going once airborne rather than thinking about where I was going on the ground.

Title: REPORTER ACFT TAXIED ONTO ACTIVE RWY AND INTO THE PATH OF SMA ON TKOF ROLL.

Narrative: ON A CLEAR MORNING, I WAS AT PLACERVILLE ARPT AND, AS AN SMA BEGAN ITS TKOF ROLL, I INADVERTENTLY ALLOWED THE NOSE OF MY ACFT TO ENTER THE RWY. THE PLT OF THE SMA SAW WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND GOT HIS ACFT OFF THE RWY BEFORE A COLLISION TOOK PLACE. I SIMPLY HAD NOT TAKEN THE TIME TO PROPERLY FAMILIARIZE MYSELF WITH THE ARPT AND BLINDLY FOLLOWED A YELLOW TXWY LINE, BELIEVING IT TO BE THE ROUTE TO THE RUNUP AREA. THE PROBLEM AROSE BECAUSE I WAS NOT PAYING ATTN TO WHAT I WAS DOING. I DISCOVERED MY MISTAKE WHEN I SAW ONE OF THE BROKEN WHITE LINES INDICATING THE RWY CENTERLINE. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED MY ACFT AND SHUT DOWN, THE PLT OF THE SMA ISSUED AN EPITHET ON THE RADIO APPROPRIATE FOR THE SITUATION. IF THERE WAS ANY FACTOR AFFECTING MY PERFORMANCE IT WAS THINKING ABOUT WHERE I WOULD BE GOING ONCE AIRBORNE RATHER THAN THINKING ABOUT WHERE I WAS GOING ON THE GND.
