Narrative:

We were cleared for an ILS to runway 25L to expect sidestep to 25R. Initially we had been told to keep speed up but quickly were slowed to 160 KT. Due to slow down was slightly high on glide slope. Just prior to outer marker and prior to being sent to tower frequency, a fairchild commuter aircraft came into view off my left, low side of the windshield. Very close. Immediately eased off toward right and saw him start a left turn. Distances were probably 50-11'. First officer asked about this aircraft. He contacted tower. Tower said that this aircraft had reported us in sight and was to keep a visual separation from us. We had not been informed of this traffic and had not yet been instructed to sidestep to 25R. We were still outside outer marker when near miss occurred and lined up with 25L. Somehow coordination failed. We were on an ILS to 25L. The commuter aircraft had been informed of and spotted us and was to keep a visual separation. We were not informed of that traffic nor told to sidestep to 25R. We were outside outer marker and still with approach control. Possibly the computer mistook some other aircraft from us. We were high and came up on him from above and from the right. Somehow we never got information on him, never saw him till he popped up from below/left and we were still on localizer to 25L and the commuter, who had reported us in sight, got too close as he had been told that we'd make approach to 25R.

Title: NMAC ON ILS AT LAX.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR AN ILS TO RWY 25L TO EXPECT SIDESTEP TO 25R. INITIALLY WE HAD BEEN TOLD TO KEEP SPEED UP BUT QUICKLY WERE SLOWED TO 160 KT. DUE TO SLOW DOWN WAS SLIGHTLY HIGH ON GLIDE SLOPE. JUST PRIOR TO OUTER MARKER AND PRIOR TO BEING SENT TO TWR FREQ, A FAIRCHILD COMMUTER ACFT CAME INTO VIEW OFF MY LEFT, LOW SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. VERY CLOSE. IMMEDIATELY EASED OFF TOWARD RIGHT AND SAW HIM START A LEFT TURN. DISTANCES WERE PROBABLY 50-11'. F/O ASKED ABOUT THIS ACFT. HE CONTACTED TWR. TWR SAID THAT THIS ACFT HAD REPORTED US IN SIGHT AND WAS TO KEEP A VISUAL SEPARATION FROM US. WE HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THIS TFC AND HAD NOT YET BEEN INSTRUCTED TO SIDESTEP TO 25R. WE WERE STILL OUTSIDE OUTER MARKER WHEN NEAR MISS OCCURRED AND LINED UP WITH 25L. SOMEHOW COORD FAILED. WE WERE ON AN ILS TO 25L. THE COMMUTER ACFT HAD BEEN INFORMED OF AND SPOTTED US AND WAS TO KEEP A VISUAL SEPARATION. WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THAT TFC NOR TOLD TO SIDESTEP TO 25R. WE WERE OUTSIDE OUTER MARKER AND STILL WITH APCH CTL. POSSIBLY THE COMPUTER MISTOOK SOME OTHER ACFT FROM US. WE WERE HIGH AND CAME UP ON HIM FROM ABOVE AND FROM THE RIGHT. SOMEHOW WE NEVER GOT INFO ON HIM, NEVER SAW HIM TILL HE POPPED UP FROM BELOW/LEFT AND WE WERE STILL ON LOC TO 25L AND THE COMMUTER, WHO HAD REPORTED US IN SIGHT, GOT TOO CLOSE AS HE HAD BEEN TOLD THAT WE'D MAKE APCH TO 25R.
