Narrative:

I received a taxi clearance to hold short of a small runway paralleling the larger main runway. On the taxiway; I first saw the movement area markings which are similar to a hold short line. These markings include signage painted on the taxiway. I carefully reviewed the markings and saw the actual hold short line ahead. I pulled up to the hold short line and held short. There is no signage either painted on the taxiway or vertical; visible from the hold short line for the runway. The vertical sign for the runway is approximately 20 feet east of the hold short line and is not visible to a plane at the hold short line. There is no signage painted on the ground. After I was cleared to cross the runway; I unintentionally and inadvertently turned onto the runway instead. A few seconds later; the controller brought this to my attention. I apologized and said I would get off at the next taxiway; which I did. The controller did not express concern at that time. After I was given a takeoff clearance; my baggage door came open and I advised the tower; exited the runway; and advised ground when off the runway. After locking the baggage door; I then received a taxi clearance and a takeoff clearance. I took off under an instrument flight plan but the ceilings approximately 20 miles from the airport were higher than predicted; so I cancelled and continued VFR to another airport for lunch. After lunch; I returned to the airport where I had made the wrong turn; and was cleared to land. I landed and when I turned off on the taxiway; ground told me to call the tower. I did so and the controller asked my name and phone number. He said someone would call me. He said they were required to report it because they had to send an approaching aircraft around and it would probably be resolved with a talking to. As I turned off the runway; I saw an aircraft on approach approximately 3 miles out. I did not see the aircraft go-around and question whether the go-around was necessary.
