Narrative:

I taxied to an intersection on runway 28. Then I called the tower who said taxi to position and hold. I taxied onto the runway facing 280 degrees ready for takeoff. I was at an intersection on the runway and had about 600-700' behind me. The tower cleared me for takeoff and said turn left 180 degrees. I understood this to mean, turn left immediately while still on the runway 180 degrees, and takeoff. So I did a 180 degree turn on the runway and did a short field takeoff at the end of runway 10 and departed. A contributing factor to this problem was the fact that I was nervous and uptight about flying an arsa. For the first time and I was worried about getting back to my destination before dark. So, I acted on my first impulse and made a wrong decision west/O thinking it through I should have thought about what the controller said before I acted. Also it would have been helpful if the controller worded his instruction differently.

Title: STUDENT PLT IN SMA CLEARED INTO POSITION FOR TKOF RWY 28 AT INTXN. TWR CTLR CLEARED STUDENT PLT TO TKOF AND TURN 180 DEGREES. SPI TURNED 180 DEGREES ON THE RWY AND TOOK OFF. APPROX 600' FROM INTXN TO END OF RWY.

Narrative: I TAXIED TO AN INTXN ON RWY 28. THEN I CALLED THE TWR WHO SAID TAXI TO POS AND HOLD. I TAXIED ONTO THE RWY FACING 280 DEGS READY FOR TKOF. I WAS AT AN INTXN ON THE RWY AND HAD ABOUT 600-700' BEHIND ME. THE TWR CLRED ME FOR TKOF AND SAID TURN LEFT 180 DEGS. I UNDERSTOOD THIS TO MEAN, TURN LEFT IMMEDIATELY WHILE STILL ON THE RWY 180 DEGS, AND TKOF. SO I DID A 180 DEG TURN ON THE RWY AND DID A SHORT FIELD TKOF AT THE END OF RWY 10 AND DEPARTED. A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THIS PROB WAS THE FACT THAT I WAS NERVOUS AND UPTIGHT ABOUT FLYING AN ARSA. FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I WAS WORRIED ABOUT GETTING BACK TO MY DEST BEFORE DARK. SO, I ACTED ON MY FIRST IMPULSE AND MADE A WRONG DECISION W/O THINKING IT THROUGH I SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT THE CTLR SAID BEFORE I ACTED. ALSO IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HELPFUL IF THE CTLR WORDED HIS INSTRUCTION DIFFERENTLY.
