Narrative:

We took off from lex on schedule. Just passing thru 10,000' we got an aft service door warning light indicating it was possibly ajar. We returned to lex to check it on the ground. After cycling the door the light went out and all seemed normal. We checked our fuel on board, assessed we had required fuel, taxied out and departed for clt. Upon arriving in clt, company dispatch informed us we should have obtained a new dispatch release. At no time do we feel we were unsafe, and our intent was to just get our passenger to clt to make connections. We felt our original release was good!
