Narrative:

Student and myself were finishing a lesson. My student received ATIS and then clearance to enter the nashua air traffic area. We were told to enter left downwind for runway 32. Approximately 3 mi out on 45 degrees inbound my student (pre-solo) was at 2000'. I asked what was traffic pattern altitude. He replied 1200'. I said, 'well, get down there.' immediately I saw another low wing aircraft (southeast) at my altitude only 50 yds in a head-on direction. I grabbed the controls and made an evasive right descending turn. The other aircraft did not see my plane until after I turned. My student never saw the plane until the incident was over. I flew the airplane until landing. No mention was made to the tower by either aircraft after the incident. One contributing factor was I should have been lower at tpa while inbound. Also the other aircraft should not have been climbing out where traffic is approaching inbound. I believe a few seconds may have been saved in the the quick time I was telling my student about his altitude.

Title: ACFT ENTERING PATTERN ON THE 45, HIGHER THAN PATTERN ALT. HAD NMAC WITH ACFT CLIMBING OUT ON DEP.

Narrative: STUDENT AND MYSELF WERE FINISHING A LESSON. MY STUDENT RECEIVED ATIS AND THEN CLRNC TO ENTER THE NASHUA ATA. WE WERE TOLD TO ENTER LEFT DOWNWIND FOR RWY 32. APPROX 3 MI OUT ON 45 DEGS INBND MY STUDENT (PRE-SOLO) WAS AT 2000'. I ASKED WHAT WAS TFC PATTERN ALT. HE REPLIED 1200'. I SAID, 'WELL, GET DOWN THERE.' IMMEDIATELY I SAW ANOTHER LOW WING ACFT (SE) AT MY ALT ONLY 50 YDS IN A HEAD-ON DIRECTION. I GRABBED THE CONTROLS AND MADE AN EVASIVE RIGHT DSNDING TURN. THE OTHER ACFT DID NOT SEE MY PLANE UNTIL AFTER I TURNED. MY STUDENT NEVER SAW THE PLANE UNTIL THE INCIDENT WAS OVER. I FLEW THE AIRPLANE UNTIL LNDG. NO MENTION WAS MADE TO THE TWR BY EITHER ACFT AFTER THE INCIDENT. ONE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS I SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOWER AT TPA WHILE INBND. ALSO THE OTHER ACFT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CLBING OUT WHERE TFC IS APCHING INBND. I BELIEVE A FEW SECS MAY HAVE BEEN SAVED IN THE THE QUICK TIME I WAS TELLING MY STUDENT ABOUT HIS ALT.
