Narrative:

During a period of very heavy traffic at aus I was working 10 aircraft for sequencing to a single runway 13R. I had to resolve a couple of conflicts that the feeder controllers had not resolved. During this time small transport X on an IFR flight plan to aus was descended to 3000' by me in preparation for a visibility approach. Air carrier Y was on base leg to follow aircraft X downwind. I became distracted by another aircraft that was landing at bergstrom AFB, but was given to me in a manner similar to aircraft landing at aus. I allowed small transport X to continued on downwind instead of turning his base leg earlier. I turned air carrier Y to a heading of 270 degrees to avoid aircraft X, but the aircraft came within 200' vertical and about 2 mi horizontal. Major distrs during this time were: improper sequencing by the feeder controllers to final controller. Traffic watch aircraft flying in the radar pattern at 2000'. I exchanged traffic between this aircraft and aircraft landing at aus 10 times in a 4 min span. This time frame is always very busy at aus, but I was working positions combined with no coordination help of any kind and neither were the feeder controllers receiving any help in the form of handoff or coordinators. Supervisor was unaware of the bldg traffic until after the error occurred.

Title: LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION BETWEEN GA-TWIN AND ACR. BOTH ON VECTORS TO APCH COURSE. OPERATIONAL ERROR.

Narrative: DURING A PERIOD OF VERY HEAVY TFC AT AUS I WAS WORKING 10 ACFT FOR SEQUENCING TO A SINGLE RWY 13R. I HAD TO RESOLVE A COUPLE OF CONFLICTS THAT THE FEEDER CTLRS HAD NOT RESOLVED. DURING THIS TIME SMT X ON AN IFR FLT PLAN TO AUS WAS DSNDED TO 3000' BY ME IN PREPARATION FOR A VIS APCH. ACR Y WAS ON BASE LEG TO FOLLOW ACFT X DOWNWIND. I BECAME DISTRACTED BY ANOTHER ACFT THAT WAS LNDG AT BERGSTROM AFB, BUT WAS GIVEN TO ME IN A MANNER SIMILAR TO ACFT LNDG AT AUS. I ALLOWED SMT X TO CONTINUED ON DOWNWIND INSTEAD OF TURNING HIS BASE LEG EARLIER. I TURNED ACR Y TO A HDG OF 270 DEGS TO AVOID ACFT X, BUT THE ACFT CAME WITHIN 200' VERT AND ABOUT 2 MI HORIZ. MAJOR DISTRS DURING THIS TIME WERE: IMPROPER SEQUENCING BY THE FEEDER CTLRS TO FINAL CTLR. TFC WATCH ACFT FLYING IN THE RADAR PATTERN AT 2000'. I EXCHANGED TFC BTWN THIS ACFT AND ACFT LNDG AT AUS 10 TIMES IN A 4 MIN SPAN. THIS TIME FRAME IS ALWAYS VERY BUSY AT AUS, BUT I WAS WORKING POSITIONS COMBINED WITH NO COORD HELP OF ANY KIND AND NEITHER WERE THE FEEDER CTLRS RECEIVING ANY HELP IN THE FORM OF HDOF OR COORDINATORS. SUPVR WAS UNAWARE OF THE BLDG TFC UNTIL AFTER THE ERROR OCCURRED.
